PEMBROKE — The Pembroke Zoning Board of Appeals set a new benchmark for the town's vague "four-car garage" bylaw, capping James Arena's proposed garage at 35 Congress Street at 1,125 square feet. Board member Chris McGrill cited a prior case that "went to land court" over the same undefined bylaw language, which also references pigs and chickens. Arena had originally sought a 1,500-square-foot structure; the board trimmed it after resident Mike Cohen of 42 Congress Street pressed for a clear definition during public comment.
Separately, the board denied a variance for a front vestibule at 2 Oakdale Terrace while approving a carport there, and unanimously approved a package of setback variances and a special permit for additions and a garage at 46 Blueberry Lane for new homeowner Joe Gilkind.
