Pembroke's Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to remand a disputed battery energy storage project back to the Planning Board over fire-safety concerns. Fire Chief Jason Varis testified the Knights of Columbus site on Scucid Street, proposed by Palmer Management Corporation for a 24-megawatt-hour lithium-ion battery system, lacks adequate access and water supply, saying, "With what I know today, I would not be able to grant a permit for that site." Palmer's attorney, Tad Heuer, argued the project is protected under state solar law. In a separate case, the board modified a cease-and-desist order for eight tenants at 520 Washington Street, setting hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturdays after neighbor Nick Mazzara said businesses there operate "from 5 in the morning till 10 at night."
