Select Board Tables Vote On License-Plate Cameras

Select Board · Meeting of September 23, 2026

Pembroke Select Board delays a decision on police license-plate cameras after a two-hour public hearing. Police Chief Wendy LaPierre told the board she has cut system access from 32 officers to nine, reduced data retention from 30 to seven days and limited sharing to a 50-mile radius since taking over roughly 15 months after her predecessor, former Chief McDonald, installed the Flock Safety cameras. "The question should not simply be whether this technology can assist law enforcement," LaPierre said.

Member Daniel W. Trabucco argued the board lacks authority over police operations under the town's Town Manager Act, while member Steve Ciciotti pressed Flock representative Carl Bach on contract terms and data use. Separately, the board voted unanimously to hire outside counsel to respond to a 60-unit Chapter 40B project in Duxbury affecting Pembroke's Taylor Street.
