Maine Author Visits Pembroke Library, Quilt Raffle Launches

PEMBROKE — Community happenings at Pembroke's libraries anchor the news this week, alongside a pair of upcoming high school sports matchups reported by outside outlets.

Maine author Pauline Cates visited Pembroke Library on September 17 at 6 p.m. to read from her new book, "Because She Asked...Memories of a Downeast Childhood," according to the library's website. The library's next Chantey Sing is set for Wednesday, September 23 at 6 p.m., and Li'l Bookworms Story Time continues Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. for ages 0 to 5.

The library also unveiled a new raffle quilt donated by members of the Ironworks Quilters. The quilt, named "Days Gone By" and made from 1930s reproduction fabrics, measures 72 inches by 72 inches. Tickets are available at the library desk for $1 each or six for $5, with the drawing scheduled for January 2027. Separately, volunteers have finished reorganizing the library's Used Book Shop on the second floor, which is now open during all regular library hours and is handicap accessible.
